Good news, Helldivers 2’s new “interplanetary battle station” – the one that sounds like it could turn the Galactic War on its head – is now being built, on a spot named after a nice Scandianvian town. That said, there’s a fresh Major Order, because in order to get the station finished, the Helldivewrs are gonna need to be in the “transporting gigastructures” business.Yep, as if the mood at Arrowhead couldn’t get any better, the last MO ended with the Helldivers basically liberating Arrowhead CCO Johan Pilestedt’s hometown, because easter eggs.To see this content please enable targeting cookies.Manage cookie settings If you’ve no idea what I’m talking about here’s the sitch – the last Helldivers 2 MO saw its players secure the orbit of a plant called Gaellivare as the place to build the new Democracy Space Station. The planet, as it turns out, is named after Gällivare, a town in the Swedish region of Lapland that looks to be where Pilestedt came from. So, naturally, the developer was quite happy about this. The work never stops though, with the game’s players already having been deployed on a fresh order in order to ensure the building of that base keeps chugging along. Its inspiring, grey-toned hull can already be seen in the orbit of Gaellivare,” it reads, “Reaching the next stage of DSS development demands significant scientific breakthroughs. The completed station will be an order of magnitude larger than a Super Destroyer, beyond the capacity of our current Alcubiere Warp Drives to transport without astronomic E-710 consumption.”The Helldivers are ordered to clear and hold Turing, to allow the Ministry of Science to establish a new, state-of-the-art Xenoentomology Center. The Center will prototype and develop new High-Efficiency Alcubiere Drives, capable of effectively transporting gigastructures like the DSS.”As of writing, Turing looks to be fully in control of the Helldivers, but with four days still to go in the order, there’s plenty of time for the bugs to launch an offensive that threatens to make this MO less of a walk in the park. What other challenges do you reckon Arrowhead might throw in the divers’ way as they battle to build this nice new space station in Helldivers 2? Today’s Xbox Partner Preview Showcase has shown off a few things, but most notably for horror fans, we finally got a better idea of what to expect from the upcoming Alan Wake 2 DLC, The Lake House.First announced during Sony’s State of Play back in September with a tantalizing teaser trailer that, frankly, didn’t give us much of an idea of the plot or gameplay that players can expect, fans have now been shown what they can look forward to when the DLC launches this month. It’s no news that The Lake House DLC will have players stepping into the shoes of Kiran Estevez, an FBC agent featured in the base game, but the latest gameplay trailer shows that Alan Wake’s own brand of spookiness is present in spades. We see lots of dark, tight rooms and creepy enemies emerging o…

Well, it’s seems Baldur’s Gate 3 developer Larian’s staff are partial to Oreos, to the point where a cinematic artist stroking a packet of them was apparently used a reference for the tentacle stroking animation from, er, that scene with you and the Emperor. You know the one. The one where you’re just chilling together at first, then they do a thing with your brain that lets you know they’re in the mood. Then you get close and their breath smells like garlic, because apparently they share the same taste in food as Peter Kay. Then you get on with either tentacle person or non-tentacle person. Yeah, that one.To see this content please enable targeting cookies.Manage cookie settings “Since we’re sharing a behind-th…
Read moreYellowjackets has been filming for a few months now, and it sounds like there’s a new cast member that could be roped up, tied up, dead in a year.As initially reported by Deadline yesterday, Joel McHale, best known for his role as the ever-asshole Jeff Winger on Community, has joined the third season of Yellowjackets’ third season in a guest role. The official Yellowjackets Twitter account confirmed the news a little bit later in the day, splicing photos of McHale amongst footage of the show’s opening, saying “Welcome to the hive” in the caption. Details of his character haven’t been shared as of yet, but considering it’s McHale, we can probably assume he’s some kind of asshole-type character, an archetype he seems to find himself slotting into pretty frequently. Welcome to the hive, @joel…

But as time has gone on, with streaming services reducing general season lengths from 20 plus episodes long to 8-10, and making them more like mini-movies without any of the benefits that comes with that, you’re having to wait longer and longer for new seasons. It’s annoying, and it seems like the latest show to fall victim to this is the Disney Plus Star Wars series Ahsoka. Natasha Liu Bordizzo, who plays Sabine Wren in the first season, recently made an appearance at Dragon Con, where she said she likely won’t be appearing at the convention next year because she’ll be filmi…

Read moreBlizzard is celebrating World of Warcraft’s 20th anniversary this year, and to do so it’s… collaborating with itself by putting some WoW skins in Overwatch 2.Collabs are all the rage these days for live-service games, but it can be a bit funny when a developer does it with itself – which is exactly what Blizzard has done with its latest one. This coming November is the 20th anniversary of World of Warcraft (I’m so sorry to those of you that have immediately been made to feel old), and so Blizzard has released a fun little trailer announcing the MMO’s collaboration with the developer’s other biggest property, Overwatch. The trailer, which you can check out below, is framed like a theme-park ride, which is almost definitely a reference to the fan favourite map Blizzard World, a theme-…

Wait, what? The show that would’ve been huge like two years ago, with WandaVision (its televised predecessor) still fresh and people genuinely hopeful about the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a whole, has received okay reviews so far, and it seems that fans of the Marvel universe’s spookier side might be entertained, but at this point, most folks just want this whole enterprise to regain some focus. To see this content please enable targeting cookies.Manage cookie settings After star Joe Locke (who’s totally not Billy Maximoff, but ‘Teen’ for sure) not doing the best press tour and the previews released…

Read moreStarfield design director Emil Pagliarulo has put the sci-fi RPG up there with the Elder Scrolls and Fallout, though I’m not sure he gets to make that call.I think we all know that there’s just something… missing, from Starfield. Even the most ardent of Bethesda fans haven’t quite clicked with it in the ways they have previously with games like Skyrim and Fallout 4, and a year on the game’s first expansion is just kind of more of the same, which isn’t necessarily a great thing. But in a recent interview with GamesRadar, design director Emil Pagliarulo said he believes Starfield “has its own unique personality and now sits right next to Fallout and Elder Scrolls.” That’s obviously a bit of a strong statement given the game’s status a year on, but Pagliarulo does explain himself furth…

The tabletop RPG mainstay has been synonymous with pen-and-paper adventuring for 50 years now, and 2024 marks a major reworking of its core rulebooks to make the game more approachable. Anyone who’s played even just a couple of sessions knows how easy it can be to covet a friend’s set of custom dice, appreciate the care a Dungeon Master has taken in setting the right ambience for a crafted campaign, or even obsess over their choice of pen and notebook — after all, it’s what you’ll be spending a large chunk of time staring into as you ponder your character’s next heroic action. But what’s amazing is that you can be a huge D&D fan without ever touching a character sheet.
